Muskogee police spent hours trying to get a man out of a trailer home after he barricaded himself inside around 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Police say they were serving a search warrant to the residence for child sexual assault at the Riverside Manufactured Home Community when the man barricaded himself inside.

After failed attempts to get the occupants to respond, investigators had to breach the front door, said police.

Once the front door was breached, a female inside the home came out and cooperated with police.

Police say she told them there was a man inside the residence who locked himself in the back room with access to a handgun.

The Special Operations Team was called to the scene around 5 p.m. and continued announcements for the suspect to come out of the home, but there was no response from the suspect.

During the deployment of chemical munitions a team member observed a man matching the suspects description slumped over a bed in the back room, said police.

Police say once it was confirmed it was the suspect, they entered the home and discovered the man was dead.

Muskogee County EMS tactical medics found that the suspect had died from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say the suspect was identified as Kamonae Carey.
