TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — A Muskogee County man accused of coughing on police and claiming he had COVID-19 is now facing felony charges.
According to an affidavit, Jason Morris was involved in a physical altercation outside the Keetoowah Trails Apartment Complex on April 25.
Muskogee police arrested Morris for resisting an officer, but he now faces a felony for reportedly threatening the officers with COVID-19.
The affidavit says that once Morris was taken into custody, he claimed that he had the virus and coughed on the officers who were on scene.
Police ended up taking Morris to the hospital and then to jail. He later bonded out.
Now, Morris has a warrant out for his arrest for the felony that District Attorney Orvil Loge is calling terrorism hoax.
This is an ongoing threat to officers that Muskogee police say is nothing to joke about.
Since the pandemic began, the Muskogee Police Department confirms at least one of their officers contracted the virus, which is why making any threat or joke about COVID-19 is taken seriously.
Police say Morris was cleared from the hospital following the arrest, however, it's unclear if he was tested for COVID-19.
