Rep. Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., failed to secure enough votes for Speaker of the House for the eighth time Thursday.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert of Colorado nominated Oklahoma Rep. Kevin Hern for the seat.

Oklahoma congressman-elect Josh Brecheen also voted for Hern shortly after the nomination.

A spokesperson with Hern's office provided NewsChannel 8 with a statement prepared Thursday morning in the event Hern was nominated:

"I'm happy as RSC chair and there's a lot we are already doing here," the statement reads. "If I hear my name, it's something I'll have to think and pray about before deciding if it's a job I'll run for. I've worked hard every day of my life - for my family, my businesses, my constituents, and now the RSC. If the conference wants me to work for them, I'll pray on it."
