TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — The Muskogee County Sheriff's Office said the detention center has moved into "critical mode" as of Wednesday.
Currently, Sheriff Andy Simmons says there are 135 positive COVID cases at the facility, with 15 inmate test results pending. Eight employees at the jail have already tested positive and are not working.
"We are disinfecting and sanitizing the facility multiple times per day and taking all the extra precautions to prevent further spread of COVID-19," Simmons said in a news release.
Deputies are continuing to monitor the needs of the roughly 50% of current inmates with coronavirus. Medical staff is providing care to all inmates.
Simmons said there are currently no inmates that require any further treatment or hospitalization.
"Everyone is experiencing trying times right now, during these trying times the Muskogee County Sheriff's Office and the Muskogee County Detention Center are working diligently to protect the citizens of his community, our inmates and our employees," Simmons said.
