
The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation has released the name of the man fatally shot by a Lawton police officer after the man was reportedly waving a gun at motorists.
Lawton Police Chief James Smith said 40-year old Jason Day of Lawton had a brief encounter with an officer Monday afternoon before he was shot.
Day was hospitalized and later died.
The name of the officer involved in the shooting has not been released and he is currently on paid leave.
The OSBI is still conducting an investigation and will soon present a report to the district attorney.
