TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — As case numbers rise, so too do calls to 211, the state’s COVID hotline.
The Community Service Council just launched a new tool to monitor COVID data and is hoping to help the public stay informed about what’s happening in their neighborhood.
“At 211 of Eastern Oklahoma, we have seen an increase in calls related to COVID, specifically people looking for testing sites,” said Eastern Oklahoma 211 program director Ashlie Casey.
The CSC unveiled a new interactive map breaking down the percentage of vaccinated individuals by zip code across the entire state of Oklahoma.
“You can check out your zip code. It can also help you maybe plan if you're looking to travel outside of the state,” said Casey. “Those border counties and zip codes in NE Oklahoma have a lower percentage of vaccination rates.”
Within Tulsa county no zip code tops the 50% to 60% vaccinated mark. and with more red zip codes that indicate lower vaccination rates, they want people to consider their practices in public settings.
“I hope it motivates people in whatever way they see fit. It could be in multiple ways and of course, you can reach out to your city officials,” said Casey. “People may have heard some information but now you can go out and find it and update yourself. So I think that information gives those people in the decision-making roles focus to be able to decide what to do next.”
Casey says it's now time for leadership to reassess what’s working in some areas and find a way to translate that to the areas that are struggling.
