TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) – Officer Aurash Zarkeshan is back in Tulsa following months of rehabilitation.
Zarkeshan was shot and severely wounded June 29 after a traffic stop. His sergeant, Craig Johnson, was fatally shot that night.
“I'm just really, really happy to be back in Tulsa finally, to be able to sleep in my own bed,” Zarkeshan told reporters gathered for his homecoming at the airport. “And, all of Tulsa, thank you for everything you've done for me and my family and Sgt. Johnson’s family. You guys are all amazing. Thank you.”
As he turned back to the crowd of officers and others there to welcome him home, Zarkeshan, who has been through something so horrific and extraordinary, uttered these simple, relatable words:
Just happy to be home. Missed my bed. Missed my dogs.
