Oklahoma City police are investigating a deadly officer-involved shooting Wednesday.

According to police, officers responded to reports of a suicidal person around 2:40 a.m. in the courtyard of Parkview Village Homes, 1416 SW 20 Street. When officers arrived on-scene, they say 29-year-old Dustin Robert Pigeon was dousing himself with lighter fluid and attempting to light himself on fire. The officers attempted to get Pigeon to drop the lighter fluid and get on the ground, but he did not comply.

Officer Troy Nitzsky then fired one round from a bean bag shotgun at Pigeon. Sgt. Keith Sweeney then fired his firearm at Pigeon, striking him. Pigeon was provided medical attention but died on scene.

Sweeney is on paid administrative leave as the incident is investigated. He has nine years of service with the department. Nitzsky has been with OKCPD for two years.
