Oklahoma 'American Idol' contestant gets audition of a lifetime
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- Day two of "American Idol" wrapped up Sunday night, but if you didn't see the episode, you missed one Oklahoma singer who had the audition of a lifetime.
"It was extremely unexpected," Benjamin Glaze said.
The 19-year-old stood in front of the "American Idol" judges, guitar in hand, but before he could sing a note, judge Luke Bryan asked him, "Have you kissed a girl and liked it?" as a reference to Katy Perry's "I Kissed a Girl."
Glaze said he's never kissed a girl. That challenge was accepted by judge Katy Perry.
Glaze went in for a kiss on the cheek, and Perry turned her head and kissed him right on the lips.
"I remember this almost freak out in slow motion right as she is turning to kiss me. I just noticed it when it was happening, and I thought, 'Oh no, what do I do?' and then, I guess I just lost control of my legs and fell back down," Glaze said.
Fortunately, Glaze recovered enough to sing for the judges.
"It was so unreal. I wasn't even fully aware that I was in the place that I was, that I didn't have the ability to be nervous," Glaze said.
Glaze sang "Levels" by Nick Jonas for his audition. Unfortunately, though, he didn't get a ticket to Hollywood.
Glaze has been singing since he was a toddler and writing songs since he was 10-years-old.
Now, kissing famous musicians at 19 and he has big plans for the next few years.
"I am hoping I can use this as an opportunity to launch my own music," Glaze said.
