A candidate for governor is in the hospital after being injured in a crash Tuesday.

Social media posts show that Joseph Maldonado was transported to an Oklahoma City hospital after a car crash Tuesday. The Libertarian candidate for governor reportedly broke two vertebrae in his neck, fractured his femur and broke his shoulder in the crash.

An Oklahoma Highway Patrol crash report shows that just before 3 p.m. Jan. 2 Maldonado was traveling northbound on a county road when he "failed to yield from a stop sign" at SH-29 and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The crash occurred approximately 2 miles west of Wynnewood on SH-29.

Maldonado, also known as Joe Exotic, announced his plans to run for Oklahoma's soon to be open governor seat in May.
