TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) -- It was a book written by a 16-year-old student that became a multi-million dollar movie featuring some of Hollywood's rising stars set right here in Tulsa.

The Outsiders House Museum officially opened Friday, August 9.

The Outsiders still attracts fans from all over the country, especially after it was the home where Darrel, Sodapop, Ponyboy Curtis lived.

It's taken three years of renovations to get the house open to the public.

One fan, Jeff Arnold from Colorado, brought his son.

Now the book and movie is a part of their family tradition.

"I've read it for the first time in 3rd grade, and I've probably read it a 100 times since then. And it's just really important to me," said 12-year-old Alden Arnold.

His dad and him share the same love for the book.

"I was here at the 50th anniversary, and didn't get to bring him out and he's a huge fan. So it's pretty special to bring him out here for a once in a lifetime thing," said Jeff Arnold.

The grand opening event brought out best friends from high school.

The movie came out their senior year in high school.

"I still have my original book, which I read before I saw the movie we're just big fans and excited about the whole deal," said Tammy Hale, who came in from Texas.

But arguably the most important person at the opening, the woman and mastermind behind it all, author S.E. Hinton.

She along with one of the movies main actors C. Thomas Howell cut the ribbon signaling the museums opening.

"I love the town. Great memories. So it means a lot to me. It's appreciated. It's unusual to have something today be important to others," said Howell.

The memories still signed on the walls of the home for anyone to see, and hopefully inspiring everyone to pick up a book with the powerful meaning.

To see the museum it's appointment only, and you must buy the tickets online.
