Police say two people are in critical condition after a double shooting in Hartshorne.

Officers responded around 1 a.m. to a home and found a man and a woman who had been shot. The victims, Mark Savage and Shaun Borders, were both taken to the hospital.

Investigators found a gun at the scene.

"I woke up because someone was beating at the door," new mom Katie Carlton said.

She said she was awakened by someone pounding at her door.

"I opened it and she was screaming, 'Call an ambulance, call an ambulance,'" she said.

It was a neighbor who went to Carlton for help.

"Completely unexpected," she said.

Carlton saw one of the victims, Shaun Borders, sitting on the porch with a gunshot wound.

Police say the other shooting victim, Borders' boyfriend Mark Savage, was inside the house.

"It's insane," Carlton said. "Shocking because they are both awesome people. It just really doesn't make sense."

Hartshorne has had only one other shooting this year, and this one has rocked not only the town, but the local police.

"Everybody's kids play together, everyone grew up together, it is not something you want to know or want to hear," Hartshorne Police Chief Jeremy Pierce said. "That's somebody's kin too, that you know or you've passed them in the store or grocery store."

The lives are what's important right now.

"I am worried about making sure they are OK, making sure they are safe, making sure we have the scene processed and secured," Pierce said.

Officers say there are no other suspects in the case. Police say it's possible the incident was an attempted murder-suicide.
