Police identify driver, victim after elderly man hit by vehicle on east Tulsa crosswalk
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
Tulsa police have identified the both the driver and victim after vehicle hit and killed an elderly man in a crosswalk on Wednesday night near 31st and Garnett.
Officers responded to the scene around 10 p.m.
Police say 22-year-old Makayla Scott was driving northbound on Garnett and turned right onto 31st Street when she hit 79-year-old Daryl Gantt in the crosswalk.
Investigators found out Scott turned on a red light, which is legal if the road is open.
Detectives are working to determine if the "walk" light was on in the crosswalk.
Police discovered Scott was driving with a suspended license.
She was arrested for not driving with a legal license, as well as having multiple outstanding warrants. She has not been arrested for the death of Gantt at this time, pending an investigation by the Tulsa County District Attorney's Office.
Gantt died at the scene.
This is an ongoing investigation.
