TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Police say a man is in jail after reportedly shooting his ex-wife's boyfriend.
Officers responded to an area near 21st and Yale around 6:15 a.m. for a shooting call. Police said a violent domestic dispute happened Wednesday night in Broken Arrow between a woman and her ex-husband.
Police said at some point early Thursday morning, the woman's ex-husband drove her to Tulsa and shot her current boyfriend at his house near East 22nd Place and South Braden Avenue.
Police said 50-year-old Eric Thomas, the woman's ex-husband, fired at least 14 shots at the woman's boyfriend through his front door, hitting him a couple times. Thomas did not go into the house. The woman was able to get out of the truck during this and ran to a nearby Neighborhood Walmart to get help. Thomas followed her there in his truck, according to police.
Officers said they found Thomas in his truck cutting his arms. He was taken into custody before being transported to the hospital for treatment. Police said Thomas will be charged with shooting with intent to kill.
Police do not know the condition of the person who was shot. They said he was shot at least twice -- once in the arm and in the lower torso.
Multiple firearms were found in Thomas' truck, according to police.
The Broken Arrow Police Department is also investigating where and how this situation started. They said Thomas had called a friend early Thursday morning. The friend then called BAPD. Officers went to the woman's home to find out what was happening.
"At that time, due to the things the suspect was saying, the police department was dispatched to this location to conduct what’s called a welfare check," said Officer James Koch, Public Information Officer for BAPD.
He said no one was at the woman's home when they arrived. Soon after, BAPD received a call from TPD saying her house was connected to the midtown shooting.
Crime scene detectives went back to the house to investigate and found signs of assault and a possible abduction.
Police have not released the names of the victim or her boyfriend.
