Brandon Watkins with the Tulsa Police Robbery Unit said the suspect wanted to rob the Forest Acres Liquor Store Thursday night and make a clean getaway, but things went badly for the would-be robber.
The suspect managed to somehow injure the owner, but the rest didn't go quite as he'd planned.
"The liquor store owner pulled a gun of her own and shot him," said Watkins.
The suspect was so badly injured that police weren't sure he'd make it through the next hour.
"I'm not even sure he got away with his life at this point," said Watkins.
When the dust settled, Watkins said they noticed something familiar about the suspect.
"It does appear this is the guy we've been looking for, for the last couple of weeks," said Watkins. "He's done multiple robberies here in Tulsa as well as up in the county."
It could offer some closure for Watkins and his team, but not the kind of closure he'd hoped for.
"I wish we'd got to him first," said Watkins. "I mean, he'd be alive right now. Or he would be in better shape than he would be now." But the case isn't over; there's still work to be done.
"We've got to A, figure out who this guy is. Then we've got to piece together what exactly happened tonight, then we've got to put this in order with all the other stuff that we've had from the past on this guy," said Watkins.
Watkins said the store owner who shot the suspect was treated by EMSA for her injuries.
No word on how extensive her injuries were, or how she was injured.
