Sapulpa band returns from Alamo Bowl performance
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Pulling into the parking lot, the Sapulpa band was tired from the long trip but the students were happy reflecting on the opportunity to perform in the Alamo Bowl.
“You know definitely I felt like a lot of people were nervous and I was a little bit nervous too but really getting to experience that is a once and a lifetime experience," said David Martin an eighth grader that was invited to play with the high school band.
The opportunity doesn’t come without hard work.
The band spent countless hours preparing for the season and the bowl game.
“We practice for the parade review, we practiced for the halftime show, hours go into the halftime performance and once we get down there, we practice for about four hours in total to get ready for the halftime performance," said Riley Groves the drum major.
A number of seniors are heading to Oklahoma for college – on Wednesday they got the chance to share a field with the same band they could be playing in on Saturdays.
“It’s really exciting, getting to see them perform, I think I saw them three times this year, then seeing them at the bowl especially it’s a very exciting thing to know that’s my future," said Alex White.
Parents spent the week with the kids and time taking them to practice and rehearsals or money paying for lessons and instruments.
For them it was a sense of pride as their child took the field.
“So it was very very exciting for me to get to see them do that especially my senior," said Margaret Klonecki who has two kids in the band.
After unloading their gear the students rushed home for some much-needed sleep.
