Student arrested for allegedly bringing a gun to school

The Bartlesville Police Department said they arrested a 14-year-old student for allegedly bringing a gun to school Monday.

Officers were called to Madison Middle School near South Madison Blvd. and Baylor Drive at 2:10 p.m. to investigate a rumor that a student was carrying a gun on campus.

The 14-year-old was called to the office but police say when he was confronted he refused to be searched and left the building.

A school Resource Police Officer arrived at the school and located the student who was walking back toward the school from the west. He was searched but the officer did not locate a gun on him.

Officers along with a K-9 searched the grounds of the school where the student had been and they located a handgun hidden on the school softball field directly west of the school.

The 14-year-old student was arrested for being in possession of a firearm. Police are checking to see if the firearm has been reported stolen.

Madison Middle School was placed on lockdown during the incident.
