The business of bling: Lawn care companies rake in big bucks during the holidays
TULSA COUNTY, Okla. (KTUL) —
Though his name is right out of a Christmas carol, this Frosty is no fairytale.
“My real name is Forest. My hair turned white when I was two, so Frosty stuck. It’s been that way ever since,” said Frosty Turpen.
Frosty – yes, Frosty – loves Christmas. His home is decorated with thousands of Christmas lights every year.
“It’s pretty extreme,” he said. “Especially when I get through. I’ve got three more trees to do. I think it’s a little over the top, but why not?”
He used to put up the lights by himself, but then something significant made him change his mind.
“The reason I use LawnAmerica now, I almost fell 25 feet. My foot got caught in the gutter, and I said bag this, I’m going to turn it over to the professionals,” said Frosty.
It’s a busy time of year for Trey Fillmore at LawnAmerica. They’re one of multiple companies in Green Country that switch from lawn care to Christmas decorations this time of year.
“I mean, we do lights up until, we’ve done them up until the day before Christmas,” said Trey.
Though there’s a variety of prices, they often don’t come cheap.
“We’ve had it cost seven, eight or ten thousand for some houses,” said Trey.
It’s a cost that Frosty is happy to pay.
“It’s fun. It’s for the kids,” said Frosty.
It takes a crew of six about two days to finish Frosty’s home.
