Theatre Tulsa opens 96th season with Oklahoma premiere of 'Newsies'
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
Theatre Tulsa will start its 96th season in August with Oklahoma's first locally-produced version of "Newsies."
Theatre Tulsa was one of the first theater companies in the county to book "Newsies" after performance rights became available in March this year.
“Newsies” is a musical based on the 1992 Disney film, which was inspired by the real-life Newsboys Strike of 1899 in New York City. “Newsies” made its Broadway debut in 2012, where it played for more than 1,000 performances.
“Theatre Tulsa audiences have come to expect big shows from us, and this is one of the biggest in the country today. This is a massive, dance-heavy show that will leave audiences astonished at the high level of local talent we have on stage,” said Jarrod Kopp, Executive Director of Theatre Tulsa.
Performances will be Aug. 10 through 26 in the John H. Williams Theatre of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center.
