TPD: Man arrested for stealing trash truck
TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) —
Tulsa police arrested a man Friday morning for stealing a trash truck outside a QuikTrip near 41st and Yale.
Officers say the truck driver stopped at the gas station to use the restroom, left the vehicle running and ran inside. The suspect hopped inside the truck and took off.
TPD was able to easily locate the truck due to the GPS tracking system inside and the size of the vehicle.
“It's not very inconspicuous or easy to hide, it’s kind of stands out pretty well," TPD officer Francis Macky said. "But I think the subject who took it was just trying to get from one place to another. I don’t think he was really thinking that through.”
The man was arrested down the street at the Southroads Shopping Center.
Police want to remind people to never leave their cars running unattended because anyone can take advantage.
“People think they can just run inside and run back out and it’ll be OK," Macky said. "But unfortunately, if you leave the car running and unlocked in your vehicle, criminals will take that opportunity to take off with something they think is an easy getaway.”
No one was injured.
Miguel Gonzales was booked into the Tulsa County Jail with a $1,000 bond and is facing a charge of larceny of an auto.
