TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — More than 150 students put their STEM skills to the test at the annual SeaPerch Challenge.
Students designed and built robots to complete a series of underwater challenges while competing against other teams.
For this years competition, 38 teams from 14 area schools traveled to the Jenks Aquatic Center for the challenge.
Their robots had to out maneuver the others in an underwater obstacle course.
"And they also have to compete in a timed competition for a, um kind of a, call it a mission course," said Levi Patrick, regional director of Tulsa Regional STEM Alliance. "So they have a particular challenge to replace batteries in this little, um contraption that we've designed that they have to strategize around to successfully complete."
Students had three months to prepare and build their robots.
The middle and high school winners will move on to the National SeaPerch Challenge in Maryland this summer.
