UPDATE: Tulsa Public Schools said Monday afternoon that this man was never an employee, though he was on his way to becoming one.

That’s no longer the case.

Here’s the district’s statement:

“Employment at Tulsa Public Schools is contingent on approval by our Board of Education. While this person completed the required steps in our hiring process – inclusive of a background check – he was never officially employed by Tulsa Public Schools and has never interacted with any of our students as an employee of Tulsa Public Schools. Given the nature of the charges, we have rescinded our conditional offer of employment.”

TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) - A teacher was arrested Monday on a charge of lewd proposal to a minor, according to the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office.

Aaron Hernandez was taken into custody by TCSO this morning. He allegedly sent multiple inappropriate pictures to a minor over Snapchat and through text messages.

Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says these types of exchanges happen most often over Snapchat and Facebook Messenger.

The undercover detectives met Aaron Hernandez in the 5800 Block of South 33rd West Avenue and arrested him.

Hernandez thinking he was meeting a 14-year-old girl for sex.

Sgt. Mike Moore with the Tulsa County Sheriff's Office says he was acting like "a mess."

"Acting in a manner that's consistent with someone who knows why we came in contact with him, why we stopped him, what he was doing there," Moore said, "So that's what I mean, he knows the seriousness of the charges he's going to face."

Tulsa County Sheriff's Office said those charges will include lewd proposals to a minor.

Officers say the social media exchange began on July 22, 2020 between the detective's account and Hernandez.

"Obviously you can see it doesn't take very long from July 22nd to today to develop enough evidence to make an open arrest on the individuals," Moore said.

Hernandez is 26 and was going to start working at Booker T. Washington High School this fall as a first-year teacher.

"That's one of the things we feel good about is that we were able to get him before he got into an environment where there would be kids around," Moore said.

The Sheriff's Office says Hernandez is a recent graduate from a local university. TPS said they never officially employed him. They would have voted on his contract at Monday night's school board meeting according to the agenda.
