Victim in south Tulsa home invasion was Broken Arrow teacher
BROKEN ARROW, Okla. (KTUL) -- Broken Arrow Public Schools has confirmed the man who was killed in a home invasion Sunday was a teacher at Oneta Ridge Middle School.
Shane Anderson taught geography, according to a statement from the district. He joined BAPS in 2013.
“I am devastated by the news of Mr. Anderson’s tragic passing,” said Broken Arrow Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Janet Dunlop. “Our hearts are breaking for his family, and we will support them every way possible during this unimaginable time.”
Around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, police say a 16-year-old on a crime spree spotted Anderson's wife and children leaving their home. The suspect pointed a gun and forced them back into their house. That's when police say Anderson tried to stop the suspect and was shot and killed.
Counselors and support staff are available to the Oneta Ridge community and will continue to be available in the days ahead.
