Vote now! Oologah K9 officer in the running for $5,000 grant

Oologah K9 Officer Ninja (Kathy McLaughlin)

OOLOGAH, Okla. (KTUL) -- The Oologah Police Department is asking for your votes!

K9 Officer Ninja is in the running for thousands of dollars in grant money.

The 2017 Aftermath K9 Grant is awarded to K9 programs for maintenance, safety equipment and officer training. Departments are nominated by officers or community members, and the department with the most votes wins.

His handler, Lt. Brent Holmes, says they already have a couple ideas about how to use the money if they win.

"Right now he stays with me," said Holmes. "I’ve got a place for him to stay. It’s an outdoor kennel but we would like to provide him with something better, a climate-controlled type of facility."

Or even a place to work on Ninja's skills.

“To have my own facility to train and do things I need to do with Ninja, that would be the biggest benefit," said Holmes.

Prizes are awarded for first through fifth place. The grand prize is $5,000.
