Voters have only a few more days to register to vote in this year’s general election. The number of registered voters in Oklahoma is now more than 2.1 million and the Tulsa Election Board Secretary says the spike in registered voters has been surprising.

“One of the theories was well, it probably will slow down after State Question 788 is decided, when in fact it has kept up the same pace, if not increased for the November election, which has been pleasantly surprising,’ said Gwen Freeman, of the Tulsa County Election Board.

The group, Together Oklahoma Tulsa, held a forum to inform voters of all the issues, including the 30 state offices that are listed on state ballots. Participants like Bailey Nett planned to listen and learn, with so much at stake.

“I’d say slightly overwhelmed, I think a lot of how we are choosing to vote in these elections are social media influenced and a lot of that is you are not getting the whole picture. So I think, events like this are pretty cool for getting to see what is going on,” said Nett, who is 25 and interested in education issues in the state.

Voters have until Friday to register to vote in the November election. If they are mailing it in, it must be post marked by midnight Friday.
