Police: Florida father shoots, kills daughter's abusive ex-boyfriend

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- A man who physically assaulted his ex-girlfriend was shot and killed by the woman's father, according to Gainesville Police.
The incident happened last Friday night at the Polos Apartments.
According to police, a woman's ex-boyfriend physically assaulted her at her apartment and then fled the scene. The woman's father arrived at the apartment afterwards.
Police say the ex-boyfriend returned to the apartment about 30 minutes later and entered the residence.
"The father, who was armed with a handgun, fired one shot at the suspect which struck him in the chest," police say in a release.
The ex-boyfriend exited the apartment after being shot. Police then arrived on scene and found him dead next to his car.
An investigation is ongoing.
No charges have been filed at this time.
