WASHINGTON (WJLA) — You might better know Virginia McLaurin as “Grandma Virginia.”
On Tuesday, the 109-year-old rang in the holiday season alongside her favorite team, the Harlem Globetrotters, and the kids at Roots Public Charter School in Northwest Washington.
“I enjoy every bit of it,” McLaurin said, smiling.
For McLaurin, these kids and this school have a special meaning. It’s the very school where she volunteered for more than 20 years.
“Oh, I loved it!” She said. “I loved it.”
She sang her very own jingle that she came up with for the Globetrotters.
“I said, ‘How did you write that? Who wrote that?’” Said Globetrotter, Zeus McClurkin. “But she said she just remembers all the lyrics in her head!”
“I just thought about it!” McLaurin said of the song. “And I like them so much!”
She plans to watch them in action when they’re in town.
“We’re going to give everyone in here—all the kids—a ticket to out game the day after Christmas!” The Globetrotters said, in front of a cheering crowd.
