Oklahoma City police arrested a 38-year-old man after he allegedly shot a dog four times and then threw it away.

On March 15, police responded to the 1500 block of NW 46th St. in response to a disturbance. The calls that came in stated a man was drunk and had shot a dog.

When officers arrived, the caller told them the incident had actually occurred at her brother's house in the 1400 block of NW 46th St. She told officers that her brother, Brendan Obryant, had been drinking and got upset with one of the dogs. According to the police report, Obryant had reached for the dog and it growled at him. He then told the woman that he was going to kill the dog, police said.

Police said Obryant disappeared to his room before eventually coming back and taking the dog by its collar aggressively and taking it outside. The caller told police she heard four to five gunshots when Obryant went outside.

According to a police report, when Obryant came back in, the caller said he had blood on his hands and said "What am I going to do now?" The caller told police she believed Obryant may have thrown the dog into the trash can outside because she never saw him actually shoot the dog.

Police said she told them that she did not feel safe going back to the house because Obryant suffered from PTSD from his time in the military and had multiple guns in the home.

When officers drove to Obryant's address, they spoke with him about if he had heard any gunshots. Obryant allegedly told them he hadn't, but he had heard some popping sounds but was not aware if those sounds were gunshots.

According to the police report, officers asked Obryant if they could search his property. Obryant gave permission.

Police said they observed a blood trail toward the trash can and found shell casings around the garbage can. Police also said there was also blood on the outside of the trash can.

According to the police report, officers asked to search inside Obryant's home for the weapon that was allegedly discharged. Obryant signed forms giving officers consent. When officers entered the home, they said they found the handgun that had been used and added that it had blood on it.

Police said they searched the trash can and found the dog inside of it, along with four shell casings.

Animal Welfare took custody of the dog to hold for further evidence. Obryant was taken into custody and booked into the Oklahoma County Detention Center on the charge of Animal Cruelty.
