TULSA, Okla. (KTUL) — Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler was allegedly stabbed at his home on Tuesday, September 27.
The stabbing occurred in south Tulsa near East 121st Street and South Yale Avenue.
Tulsa police say they received a 911 call around 3 p.m. from Kunzweiler himself.
Kunzweiler said he had been in an altercation with his daughter when she stabbed him multiple times. He was immediately taken to the hospital.
The DA's Office says Kunzweiler was awake and talking on the way to the hospital and is expected to recover from his injuries.
Kunzweiler released the following statement regarding the incident:
Unfortunately today, I found myself in a situation that I hoped would never happen. Fortunately, my injuries are such that I was able to go home. Thank you to everyone who expressed concern for me and my family. I am most appreciative of the response from the Tulsa Fire Department, EMSA, the Tulsa Police Department and the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office. I am also very grateful for the professionalism and care of the staff and doctors at Saint Francis Hospital in treating me for my injuries.
His daughter, the suspect, was also injured and taken to the hospital. She is also expected to recover from her injuries.
Police say the situation escalated due to his daughter's mental condition.
TPD says they will be pressing charges and treat this case just like any other.
Jennifer Kunzweiler was arrested by police in connection to the stabbing.
The DA's Office also says that the Kunzweiler family would appreciate prayers and privacy as they go through this struggle.
