"Caleb Calhoon - wide receiver and defensive back at Victory Christian."

Caleb Calhoon is also a Ford Award nominee for the second straight year. Just like last season, Caleb has been an impact player on both sides of the ball for the Conquerors.

"The great ones; they have that heart," said Victory Christian head football coach Ron Smith.

"They have that drive. I never have to try and motivate [Caleb]. He shows up here a while ago on the jog. He can't wait. Practice is still fun."

Last week, Calhoon caught 10 passes for 209 yards and 2 touchdowns in addition to returning a fumble 41-yards for a defensive score in an impressive 49-21 win over Tahlequah Sequoyah.

"Going into that second half, coach [Smith] really harped on us," Calhoon recalled. "We weren't going to the ball hard enough. Then on the first play I end up getting that strip and fumble recovery."

While game-changing performances like this aren't anything new to caleb, in some ways, this season has been the most challenging...

"I had a partial tear in my knee; my patellar tendon in both knees," said Calhoon. "So I didn't do anything all summer. You know, practice has been a little difficult and still been giving a little pain here and there.

This is my last time. I can either feel sorry for myself and mope. Or I can be like, 'alright, this is my last go-round.'"

"You're always one play away from your season being over," said Smith.

"But you can't play with that on your mind. Just keep fighting. And Caleb certainly has that mentality."

So congratulations to Caleb Calhoon of Victory Christian for being our Week 8 Ford Award nominee!
