Tulsa softball heading to Norman to begin postseason
For the 10th time in school history...the Tulsa Golden Hurricane are going dancing. After winning the AAC title, TU heads to Norman for the 3rd straight season, and that's something the team knows they can't dwell on.
"No matter where you go in the country, you're playing against a great team that's got a great crowd," head coach John Bargfeldt says. "Everything's stacked against you when you're a mid-major."
"We don't have any control over that," says senior Shelby Estocado. "So wherever they send us, we're just excited to be in regionals."
Of course, we all remember last year.. The Canes had OU down 4-2 in the 10th. Three outs from heading to the program's 1st super regional. Then a walk-off home run gave the Sooners the win. But senior Emily Watson tries to forget about that.
"I'm having a short-term memory. So I'm just keeping it as, this year we have a really good team, and just focus on how we are this year."
And with that mentality, the sky is the limit.
"I think our team realizes that if we play our best ball that we can compete with any team in the country,” Bargfeldt says. “And I think we've proven that over the last several years.
"That's a goal is to be the 1st team to win a super, Watson adds. “But really, since the beginning, we've been taking it one weekend at a time, and once we get where we're going, we take it one game at a time."
We'll see if that mindset continues in Norman.
