The University of Tulsa's first-year head football coach Kevin Wilson officially announced on Friday the appointment of three defensive coaching staff members.

Matt Guerrieri will serve as defensive coordinator as well as safeties coach, Michael Hunt Jr. will coach cornerbacks, and Koy McFarland will serve as the linebackers coach.

Guerrieri and McFarland are following Wilson from Ohio State University and Hunter played for Wilson at Indiana University.

I’m excited for these guys to join our coaching staff. I am very familiar with each of them, having coached together with Matt and Koy at Ohio State, and then having the opportunity to coach Michael at Indiana," Wilson said. "First, they are tremendous individuals as well as excellent football coaches with bright futures ahead of them. They each possess the skill sets to be outstanding recruiters and teachers of our young men.

Guerrieri spent the 2022 season as a senior advisor and analyst at Ohio State.

Previously he spent 10 years at Duke University including his final four seasons as co-defensive coordinator.

Guerrieri is a Willoughby Hills, Ohio native and graduated as a three-year letterman at Davidson College with a sociology degree in 2011.

Hunter comes from Oklahoma State where he served two seasons as the assistant defensive secondary coach.

Hunter played under Wilson at Indiana and finished his college career in 2015 at Oklahoma State.

He is a West Monroe, La. native and earned a bachelor's degree in kinesiology and exercise science.

Hunter was first signed by the Giants as an undrafted free agent after the 2016 NFL Draft and went on to spend time with the New York Jets, Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills, Houston Texans, and Kansas City Chiefs.

McFarland joined the defensive coaching staff at Ohio State in 2022 as a graduate assistant coach.

He had previously spent three seasons as the assistant linebackers coach at Oklahoma State.

He is a Nacogdoches, Texas native, and played wide receiver at Copiah Lincoln Community College before transferring to Arkansas-Monticello.
