Hello my name is Ethan Hutchins and I started as a multimedia journalist at Tulsa’s Channel 8 in October 2016.
Growing up in north Texas it was clear to many of those around me that I loved to talk. So when I decided to major in broadcast journalism at the University of North Texas it made sense. After four years at UNT -- GO MEAN GREEN -- majoring in Converged Broadcast Media and minoring in Spanish, I set out into the news industry.
First let me say the news industry is so small. It seems large but every market I have worked in so far has been full of people I have met before. And that’s what’s so special about TV news: The people at work and the viewers at home.
I come to Tulsa from Waco, Texas. I worked for the No. 1-rated morning show in the market at KWTX-TV as a morning news reporter for two years. I covered major stories such as the Twin Peaks biker shooting, Baylor University sexual assault scandal and drove up I-35 to cover the Dallas police shooting. Besides covering breaking news, I was fortunate enough to meet many great people, tell their stories and go on some fun adventures along the way, like riding in an F16 with the Thunderbirds.
Before Waco was Sherman-Denison, Texas where I worked at the No.1-station in town, KXII-TV. I made a lot of my first mistakes on camera and really learned how to be a better news reporter. It was then when I first reported in Texoma, mainly telling stories in Bryan County, Okla.
This may be my first time living and reporting in Green Country, but I know I can find the stories that need to be told. Please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and send me any story ideas you have. I hope to meet you soon!
